DJI Mavic 2 is a thing now

The long awaited Mavic 2 is finally here with all the inherited features from original Mavic and some new cool features. Now with the variety in the Mavic series, one popular question arises. Which drone should one buy for ultimate video making experience?

DJI has released 2 separate models of Mavic 2, Pro and Zoom. Both offer different features to the consumers.

Mavic 2 Pro

The Mavic 2 Pro have unique high end camera with 1in Hassleblad sensor. Due to large sensor, DJI changed the design to square from round camera housing. Hopefully there will be ND and CP filters for the Mavic 2 pro in the market very soon. The Mavic 2 Pro camera might seem large in photos, but in person it’s much smaller than the camera on the Phantom 4 Pro.

Aside from the cameras, both of these drones have a sleeker and more aerodynamic design compared to the original Mavic Pro, but from a distance, you wouldn’t be able to see a difference between them.

The only major distinction is the LED light placement on the two back arms that makes the Mavic 2 easier to fly when far away.Bigger 1" Sensor in MAVIC 2 PRO

Mavic 2 Zoom

The Mavic 2 pro has a fixed lens while Mavic 2 zoom has the Zoom lens. On the Mavic 2 Zoom, you get a 24mm equivalent field of view at the wide end and 48mm at the narrow end of the zoom range (2X crop). You can go super wide and capture everything, or zoom in for isolating your subjects from the background and getting more of a film look. This is the very first consumer drone from DJI to offer zoom capabilities.

The Mavic 2 Pro has a fixed lens with a 28mm equivalent field of view. It’s not as wide as the Mavic 2 Zoom but it’s not too narrow either.

On the Mavic 2 Zoom the sensor size is much smaller, so the zoom lens can be much smaller than an equivalent lens for the Mavic 2 Pro with its larger sensor.

Camera Performance and Features

Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic Pro: Hasselblad Camera and Larger Sensor

DJI Mavic 2 Pro has the camera from Hasselblad with 1in sensor, Sensor is much bigger as compared to the original Mavic Pro. It has an active sensing area four times more effective than Mavic Pro, which means higher image quality with superior light and color performance. The larger sensor results in better performance in low light environments. The larger sensor also allows capturing vivid 20MP photos in full detail as compared to 12MP.

Better Color Production

Mavic 2 Pro’s Hasselblad camera offers Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology, the colors of your footage appear more natural with less distortion. In addition, the Mavic 2 Pro is able to record over 1 billion colors due to a 10-bit Dlog-M color profile. Comparatively, the Mavic Pro records 16 million colors.

Advanced Adjustable Aperture

Mavic 2 offer variable aperture (f2.8 and F11) which enables it to outperform in long exposure shots in dim light. It capture photos in limited sunlight which have minimal noise and color distortion.

New HDR Video

The new Mavic 2 Pro can shoot 4K 10-bit HDR videos. In easy words, this means you can shoot videos with higher dynamic range and more vivid colors, which can be seen on HLG TVs without post-editing.

New Zoom Lens

The Mavic 2 Zoom has a 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensor, same as the original Mavic Pro.  But only the Mavic 2 Zoom version is equipped with the new 2x optical zoom lens with 24mm-48mm focal length. The zoom feature allows you to capture from more dynamic perspectives and get closer to the target object.

Mavic 2 Series vs Mavic Pro: Bit Rate

While the Mavic Pro records videos with a maximum bit rate of 60 Mbps, both versions of the Mavic 2 are capable of shooting 100Mbps bitrate videos. The higher bit rate will generate more clarity in your videos due to less compression.

In addition to the higher bit rate, Mavic 2 Pro can take HDR photos even better than the Mavic Pro. It takes multiple shots with different exposures and combines them to get one high quality and detailed image.

The Mavic 2 pro also offers newer video codec H265 so videos and photos appear sharper and clearer.

New Flight Modes

In addition to conventional flight modes like Dronie, Boomerang, Circle etc, Mavic 2 have some brand new flight modes names as Dolly Zoom and Hyperlapse. Dolly Zoom is only available in the Mavic 2 Zoom. In this aircraft moves backward and Zooming at the same time to take a cinematic shot which was only possible in expensive equipment before. With the new Hyperlapse feature, the aircraft shoots videos in various flight modes and processes them automatically into moving time-lapse videos.

Mavic 2 Zoom can also take high res 48MP photos. This shooting mode uses the zoom lens to take multiple images and combine them together into a Super Res image with 4 times the resolution of a standard photo.

Video Quality

The video quality has improved significantly in this iteration of Mavic Series. This is mainly due to better colors, higher bitrate, and a new video codec. The colors on the Mavic 2 Zoom are very similar the Mavic Air. Both the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom also record at 100Mbps (40Mbps faster than the Mavic Pro), but the biggest improvement is the new H.265 video codec.

Flight Performace

Due to the newly designed body, Mavic 2 have a longer flight time of 31min because of lower power consumption. Mavic 2 has a top speed of 72 Kph in the sports mode.

Mavic 2 supports APAS (Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems). Both Mavic 2 drones have an omnidirectional obstacle sensing system with 10 sensors.

The all-new OcuSync 2.0 video transmission system supported by Mavic 2 provides a 1080p video transmission signal up to astonishing 8 kilometers (approx. 5 miles) away, allowing you to fly 1km (0.6 miles) further than the old generation.

Which Drone is the best for you?

Mavic 2 Pro sales on $1499 and Mavic 2 Zoom $ 1299, pricier than Mavic Pro $999.

Mavic 2 Zoom looks impressive with getting close to the targets feature, you can silently get close to capture the wildlife. But if you’re more like a cityscape filmmaker or photographer. Instead of extra Zoom, You must go for the extra Megapixels and a bigger sensor. The bigger sensor will help you to capture the nightlife in the cities. In short by spending the extra $200, you’re basically getting the Mavic 2 Pro’s Hasselblad camera which offers better colors, higher resolution, and low light performance.

Nvidia Geforce RTX, World’s First Real-Time Ray Tracing GPUs

In a series of announcements, Nvidia showcased it’s brand series of gaming GPUs, Nvidia Geforce RTX. The GeForce RTX series of gaming processors represents the biggest leap in performance in NVIDIA’s history. The new GPUs, starting at just $499.

Computer graphics has been reinvented.

Turing is promised to deliver 6x more performance than its predecessor, Pascal. It redefines the PC as the ultimate gaming platform, with new features and technologies that deliver 4K HDR gaming at 60 frames per second on even the most advanced titles.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, 2080 and 2070 GPUs are the first gaming processors based on new Turing architecture. The RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 including Founders Edition cards will be available for pre-order starting Monday. The RTX 2070, starting at $499 will be available in October.

These products are built on the NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture introduced a week ago in Vancouver, which fuses next-generation shaders with real-time ray tracing and all-new AI capabilities. Huang said this new hybrid graphics capability represents the biggest generational leap ever in gaming GPUs, delivering 6x more performance than its predecessor, Pascal.

At the moment, 21 new games —including Battlefield VFinal Fantasy XVPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Shadow of the Tomb Raider — are being developed on the NVIDIA RTX platform.

The demo of battlefield V had everyone burst into applause and shouting with enthusiasm as they saw scenes from an urban battle reflected in a soldier’s eyes, fire from a flame-throwing Churchill Crocodile tank reflected from the hood of a car, or an explosion from a V1 rocket reflected in the windows of nearby storefronts moments before the shockwave from the explosion shattered them.

NVIDIA RTX is the product of 10 years of work and 10,000 engineering years of effort in computer graphics algorithms and GPU architectures, Huang said. The NVIDIA RTX platform benefits from support in Microsoft’s new DirectX Raytracing API, games adopting it in development for Windows and Vulkan APIs, and hardware acceleration integrated into NVIDIA’s Turing architecture.

The headline feature — RT Cores — represent a kind of “holy grail” for gamers, accelerating the crushingly computationally intensive work of tracing beams of light through to generate images in real time, Huang said.

The new RT cores boost the performance of Geforce family and in ray tracing the 2080Ti is 10 times faster than the last generation 1080Ti. Gaming performance is still vague due to limited supported titles for this new platform. Nvidia is promising a 50% boost in gaming performance at 4K using 2080Ti as compared to 1080Ti.

The OnePlus current flagship device has an uncanny resemblance to the Oppo R11 – they differ slightly in size, chipset and RAM, in cameras and batteries but are more or less identical in terms of design. The leaked photos of OnePlus 5T are very much similar to the Vivo V7 Plus. Oppo and OnePlus (and vivo) are owned by the same company and it shows in a variety of ways across the devices of the three manufacturers. we can expect an updated version of One plus 5 as One Plus in past years also refreshed one of its flagship devices that is One Plus 3.

Pete Lau, founder, and CEO of OnePlus, tweeted an image showing great detail in low-light conditions. Alongside the image he said “Impressive photo. Must be a great camera ;-)”, suggesting it could be from the OnePlus 5T as we already know the OnePlus 5 has a great camera.

One report from GizmoChina suggests the phone will be announced in November this year and released soon after. Here are the listed specifications from one of the retailers.

 

Oneplus will have a 6-inch Quad HD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 quad-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz. It is expected to come in 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 64GB and 128GB storage respectively.

The handset is said to support a 20-megapixel rear camera coupled with another 16-megapixel sensor, making it a dual camera setup at the back. It is also said to have a 16-megapixel front camera while some leaks suggest 13MP font-facing camera. Another retailer shows dual 20MP camera setup. OnePlus 5T is also expected to come with an upgraded dual-camera setup that would include optical image stabilization (OIS).

These specifications all match with OnePlus 5, however, differences include a larger 3450mAh battery with Dash quick charge, larger 6-inch display, and a full-HD+ resolution of 1080×2160 pixels.

It is also thicker than the OnePlus 5, weighing in at 164 grams. The thickness is said to be identical at 7.25mm, but the phone will be slightly wider and taller at 157×75.4mm. The handset is rumored to support global 4G LTE bands and supports 34 network bands.

Some of the other rumors surrounding the OnePlus 5T include an aluminum frame with a bottom-positioned speaker and a slightly higher capacity battery than the 3300mAh pack available on the OnePlus 5. It is expected to move the fingerprint sensor to the rear panel, in line with the adoption of a bezel-less display.

Pricing and Comparison

OnePlus 5T look a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG V30 that we’ve already seen the launch this year. One Plus 5T will have a pixel density less than Note 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 considering the Screen resolution and size. We’re still not sure about whether it will have curved edges or not. The aspect ratio is similar to a Note 8 that is 18.5:9. One Plus 5T will cost around 549 USD, and according to some other retailers, it will be around 479USD.

Razer is about to enter in the Smartphone competition, as the company will announce it first gaming focused phone on November 1.  Despite close to the launch, we’re still not sure about the name of the Phone but we’ll stick to “Razer Phone” for the Moment.

Only a few pictures of the design are appeared online showing the back of the phone. The pictures give us the idea of the shape of the phone. I’ve created a render of the phone based on the back image leaked on the internet. The Razer Phone is set to be announced on November 1, as Razer has teased the launch on its website. It has a blocky, angular design, very similar to the Nextbit Robin, which is no surprise since Razer has purchased Nextbit.

It’s shown in black here and while it may come in other colors. it’s possible that black will be the only option, as Razer is fond of that color. We can expect a White too as razer have gaming peripherals in Mercury White too.

The rear is plain other than a large white Razer logo. It’s hard to judge the material from images but based on high end specs, we can expect a metal or glass case rather than a plastic one.

Other visible details include a dual-lens camera and two small buttons on the left edge, likely to control the volume.

There are no images of the screen, but a GFXBench listing suggests it will have a 5.7-inch 1,440 x 2,560 one. I’ve created renders of the front of phones based on Nextbit robin design. Phone will probably have dual stereo speakers for better sound quality. We’re expecting a high-resolution display as the teased image focuses on 3 words that are “Watch, Listen and Play”.

That’s a conventional QHD resolution, suggesting the Razer Phone will probably have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Razer Phone camera and battery

The one benchmark we’ve seen for the Razer Phone lists a 12MP rear camera, though there’s no mention of a dual-lens one, even though the picture we’ve seen seems to have a dual-lens camera.

The benchmark also lists a 4K video camera and a 8MP front-facing camera, though other than HDR and a flash on the rear camera. There’s no word on what capabilities and modes these cameras will have. We can expect to see a reasonably large battery if the Razer Phone is to be positioned at gamers.

Razer Phone OS and power

Benchmarks leaks suggest the Razer Phone will have a Snapdragon 835 chipset and an Adreno 540 graphics chip, which would make it a match for the likes of the LG V30 and the US version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Since the Razer Phone will likely be designed for high-end mobile gaming. So we can expect that Razer Phone will have 7.5GB of RAM which is more than almost any other smartphone – though there is a version of the OnePlus 5 with 8GB.

Razer’s CEO has previously mentioned creating a mobile device “specifically geared toward gamers”.

We can expect the Android Oreo with Custom Razer Skin although benchmarks show Android 7.1.1.

Razer Phone other features

Again, from the benchmarks, we can expect 64GB of storage in the Razer phone. Razer may use the ability to offload files and even apps to the cloud as shown by Nextbit. So that less internal storage is used.

Razer may even take it a step further and allow you to stream games from the cloud. That will allow the Razer Phone to run more demanding games than many handsets. Since much of the horsepower could also be provided by the cloud.

We can expect Razer to add Gaming featured controls in the phone apart from touch screen controls. Or a step further, We can have the capability to pair Razer Gaming peripherals to the Razer phone.
